Henna is made from the henna leaves that are dried, crushed and made into a paste using 100% natural ingredients such as water, lemon juice, sugar and essential oils. Henna designs, also known as Mehendi is temporary body art that is adorned on the hands and feet during a time of celebration. Most women put henna for weddings, but in some parts of India, the groom gets henna too!
Since it is 100% organic, it’s safe for all ages and skin type! Henna paste may contain lavender or eucalyptus oil. If you are allergic to any of these, please ask before getting it. Due to its natural ingredients, henna is also beneficial for your skin!
1. Exfoliate your skin prior to getting henna.
2. Leave the paste on your skin for at least 6-8 hours, or overnight if possible! The longer the paste is on, the darker your henna will turn out.
4. Avoid water while the paste is on.
5. Remove the paste with oil and scrap it off with a towel.
6. Stay warm! Your body heat helps the stain absorb in your skin.
Natural henna will take about 48 hours for the stain to darken! So if you’re getting ready for your wedding or event, get your henna done 2-3 days prior! The stain acts differently on every person as everyone has their unique chemical balance which helps the skin absorb the stain. The stain can be maintained for a longer time by keeping your skin moisturized.
It depends on what part of your body you get your henna. It lasts about 7-10 days on the hands and 14 days other parts of your body. Remember, henna gets the darkest on your palms since there’s more body heat.
A simple design takes about 10 minutes. Bridal designs may take 3 - 8 hours as it is very intricate work and requires more attention to detail.
